AUDITION NOTICE

Friday, September 11 | 12:30–3:00 PM — Callback, if necessary
BEFORE YOU COME TO THE AUDITIONWrite and Memorize a 30-Second Original MonologueYou will write this monologue yourself BEFORE the audition. Come with it fully prepared and memorized. You will perform it individually as part of your audition.
Monologue Theme: What You Don't See — Appearance vs. RealityThink about the difference between how your character appears to other people and what is actually happening underneath.
Your character may appear confident, happy, indifferent, brave, successful, innocent, angry, or completely fine—but the truth is different.
To help you find an idea, consider:
"Everyone thinks I'm confident, but I'm actually insecure."
Have the character begin by maintaining the appearance:
"No, seriously, I'm good. I didn't even really want the part. I mean, somebody had to get it, right? And she's good. She's really good. So... I'm happy for her."
Let us gradually discover that the words and the truth don't quite match.
A Simple 30-Second StructureFirst 10 seconds — THE APPEARANCE
Show us what the character wants people to believe.
Second 10 seconds — THE CRACK
Something begins to slip. We start to suspect that what we're seeing isn't the whole truth.
Final 10 seconds — THE EVIDENCE
Give us one small detail, action, or piece of evidence that reveals what's really going on.
ExampleTHE APPEARANCE
No, seriously, I'm good. I didn't even really want the part. I mean, somebody had to get it, right? And she's good. She's really good. So... I'm happy for her.
THE CRACK
I just wish they hadn't made me stay for the whole callback. That's all. Three hours. They kept saying, "Don't leave." So I thought... I don't know. I thought that meant something.
THE EVIDENCE
But it's fine. Really. I already deleted the cast list from my phone. I mean—I screen-shotted it first. But then I deleted it. So... yeah. I'm good.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THE AUDITION1. You will perform your prepared and memorized 30-second monologue individually.
2. After the monologues, we will work together in small groups on a series of movement, improvisation, and devising exercises.
You do NOT need to prepare anything for the group portion of the audition. These exercises will be given to you when you arrive and are separate from your monologue.
