5. CENTER-LEADING EXERCISES
Where the body initiates movement changes the character dramatically.
Exercise A: Leading From One Part of the Body

Walk around the room. (Use a dance room with a mirror, if possible; however, it is not necessary.)
Walk leading from:
  • Nose
  • Chest
  • Forehead
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Chin
Ask:
  • "Who is this person?"
Notice the characters that emerge.

Exercise B: Character Generator
Try:
  • Chest-led + fast = confident executive
  • Nose-led + cautious = detective
  • Hip-led + relaxed = celebrity
  • Head-led + nervous = overthinker
Build characters physically before adding voice.

Exercise C: Emotional CentersTry this with a monologue:

  • Heart center
  • Gut center
  • Head center
