3. TARGET EXERCISES
The goal is to focus attention on the other person instead of on yourself.

Exercise A: Find One Thing
Before the monologue or scene begins:
Choose one thing about your partner:
  • Their posture
  • Their breathing
  • Their energy
  • Their eyes
Allow that observation to influence your performance.

Exercise B: One Target, One Need
Objective:
  • Get your partner to laugh.
  • Forget yourself.
  • Everything becomes about affecting them.

Exercise C: Emotional Target
Try to get your partner to:
  • Smile
  • Relax
  • Listen
  • Forgive
  • Leave
  • Stay
The target is always the other actor.

Exercise D: Observation Before Speaking
Performers cannot say their first line until they've noticed something truthful about their partner.
No rushing.
