2. ACTION VERB SCORING
The goal is to assign a playable action to each beat.

Exercise A: One Verb Per Beat
Identify beats. Then assign one action verb to each.

Example:
  • Beat 1: To Explain
  • Beat 2: To Convince
  • Beat 3: To Challenge
  • Beat 4: To Inspire
Perform the monologue focusing only on the action.

Exercise B: Verb Replacement
Perform the same beat multiple times. Change only the verb.

  • To Comfort
Try:
  • To Persuade
  • To Manipulate
  • To Inspire
  • To Challenge
Ask yourself what feels most effective.

Exercise C: Partner Feedback
  • Partner watches.
  • After each beat they answer: "What action did I think you were playing?"
If their answer matches the performer's choice, the action is communicating.
